Tuesdays at the Track: This week's rankings
The Study of Sports Network has been charting older
male routers since the start of 2013. The result of the
list below were anyone with a graded stakes victory since that time who is
still in training has been ranked. We’ll let the list
speak for itself, but we would also like to explain how the list has been
developed and how it will continue to evolve moving forward.
Who gets ranked
-Any horse 4-years old or older who wins an open
company, graded stakes race of one mile or more AND around two turns will be
immediately added to the rankings the next Tuesday unless that horse has
shipped from outside the United States or Canada without intentions of
remaining in North America to continue training.
-In the event a graded race is taken off the turf, a
decision about whether to rank the winner will be made internally, on a
case-by-case basis, and the decision will be final.
-A 3-year old who beats older horses will become ranked
the first Tuesday after turning 4 providing none of the conditions for being
dropped have been met.
-Horses will remain ranked until meeting one of the
following conditions:
-Grade I winners will remain ranked for the remainder
of the calendar year.
-Retired or deceased horses who have not won Grade I
races in the current calendar year will remain ranked for one week after
becoming inactive and then be dropped from the rankings the following week.
-A horse who runs in three consecutive non-stakes races
will be dropped from the rankings the Tuesday after the third such race.
These horses may be returned to the rankings upon re-entering stakes
company and will be handled internally on a case-by-case basis.
-A horse who runs three consecutive races Out of
Division—the conditions for which are listed below—and who has not won a
Grade I race I the current calendar year will be dropped from the rankings
the Tuesday after the third such race. These horses may
be returned to the rankings upon re-entering the division and will be
handled internally on a case-by-case basis.
-Any horse who does not work for a period of one year
may be removed from the rankings. These decisions will be
handled internally on a case-by-case basis.
All ranked horses will be assigned one of the following
statuses:
-In Training (IT): horse is
currently in training
-On the Shelf (OTS): horse is
currently injured or taking a break from training; when not specifically
notes horses will be moved to this status after two months pass without a
race or workout.
-On the Worktab (OTW): horse
has resumed working after being On the Shelf.
-Out of Division (OD):
horse’s most recent race was outside division; one-turn miles, while not
grounds for becoming ranked, will not be considered races Out of Division
for horses already ranked; female horses will be considered Out of Division
if they participate in a race restricted to fillies and mares.
-Retired (RET): horse has
been retired from racing
-Deceased (DEC): horse is
deceased
-Europe (EUR): horse is based
in Europe or other jurisdiction outside the United States or Canada.
-Missing in Action (MIA):
horse’s status is unknown.

NHL:
The Hurricanes fired a shot in the muddled Eastern Conference playoff
race by scoring three unanswered goals in the 3rd period to beat the Blue
Jackets 3-2. The result vaulted the Canes from 6th to 3rd
in the Metropolitan—over the Devils, Flyers, and Blue Jackets.
The Jackets dropped out of a playoff position and are now 1 point off
the Red Wings for the final spot in the conference. The
Staal brothers carried the Hurricanes. Eric potted two
goals in a minute to tie and Jordan hit the game-winner 107 seconds after
that. NBA:
Score one for the strategy of taking an easy two and making the other
team work instead of putting up a hasty three to try and tie a game.
Trailing by three the Raptors went to the hole and got an easy lay-up
for John Salmons. The Nets followed by calling a
20-second timeout but Deron Williams’s inbounds pass was stolen by Patrick
Patterson who proceeded to nail the game-winning jump shot to give the
Raptors a 104-103 win. The Raptors now lead the Nets by
2-1/2 games in the Atlantic Division and they are the only team to beat the
Nets this month (10-2.) NBA:
The Jazz beat the Kings on Monday to move off the bottom of the
Western Conference for the first time since they stumbled out of the blocks.
But after starting 1-14 the Jazz are 15-15 since.
The Kings were again without DeMarcus Cousins (sprained ankle) and Rudy Gay
(strained Achilles) as they droped to a conference worst 15-29. |

NBA:
Kevin Durant scored 13 of his 41 points in the 4th quarter, the last
two of which won the game against the Hawks in the dying seconds.
Durant’s streak of 11 straight games scoring at least 30 points in an
11-year high in the NBA. The last streak longer than 11
was Tracy McGrady’s 14 straight in Spring 2003. The
Thunder are 9-2 during the streak. NHL:
Sidney Crosby’s two assists against the Sabres moved him to level
with Joe Thornton on 47 and the league lead. NHL:
Jonathan Quick shutout the Sharks 1-0 on Monday, the 9th shutout this
season for the Kings. Quick became the third Kings’
goalie this season to record three shutouts. Ben Scrivens
did it first while subbing when Quick was injured, but Scrivens was replaced
by Martin Jones who had three shutouts of his own before Quick came back.
Scrivens has since been traded to the Oilers for a 3rd Round pick. |
